Obituary for Carl Louis Waterhouse

Carl Louis Waterhouse of Barstow, CA died Friday, July 1, 2022 at the age of 88 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Apple Valley, CA. He was born to the late Willard and Ethel Waterhouse (Gray) in Marion, OH.

In addition to his parents, Carl was preceded in death by his brothers Harold and Virgil of Marion, OH.

Carl is survived by his wife Lois, daughter Brenda Monarque (Stephen), sons Brian (Blythe), and Edward (Lupe), as well as nine grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Carl was raised in Marion, OH with his two siblings. He graduated from Harding High School in 1952. Two years after graduating, he met and married his loving wife, Lois, on October 23, 1954 and in 1961 they moved to Barstow where together they raised their family.

In his younger years, Carl enjoyed riding Harley Davidson motorcycles and working on cars. He raced stock cars at the Barstow Speedway taking the checkered flag in several races and bringing home quite a few trophies. He even participated in a figure eight demolition derby, which he thoroughly enjoyed.

Later in life, Carl was a volunteer member of the San Bernardino County Rescue Squad from 1974-1984 and he served as a San Bernardino County Reserve Deputy Sheriff from 1984-1992. In addition to his volunteer service, Carl was a longtime Federal employee of the Marine Corps Logistics Base, Barstow, where he worked as a supervisor in the Paint Shop and then as a Production Shop Planner. He retired from the Federal government in 1990 with 39 years of service. Following his retirement, Carl worked as a security guard at the Barstow Community Hospital from 1991-1992 and then at K-Mart from 1992-1996.

In his personal life, Carl loved spending time with family and friends. He also enjoyed watching the occasional cowboy movie, putting together puzzles, and walking the family dog, Honey. Rain or shine, Carl was always busy working at least one or two home repair projects around the house.
