Obituary for Louis Joe Mata
Louis (Louie) Mata, long time resident of Barstow, California went home to be with the Lord on June 15, 2023. Louie passed away peacefully surrounded by family in Seattle Washington.
Louie grew up in the city of Barstow and graduated from Barstow High School. Louie joined the United States Army and served overseas as a communications specialist / lineman. After his military service Louie returned home and married his high school sweetheart Hipolita (Paula) Mata and raised their 5 children in the city of Barstow.
Louie worked for 40 years at the United States Marine Corps Logistics Base Barstow as an Optics Repair Specialist. After his retirement Louie continued to work as a contractor for the United States Postal Service and delivered the mail to Death Valley on a regular basis.
Louie loved to travel, see new places and take care of his grandchildren. He will missed by all who knew and loved him.
Louie was preceded in death by his beloved wife of over 50 years Hipolita (Paula) Mata, Parents Saturnino and Paula Mata, Granddaughter Lauren Chavira, Sister Ofelia Cordova and Sister Andrea San Miguel.
Louie was a loving father, to daughter Olivia Chavira (husband Thomas), son Adrian Mata (wife Jennifer), son Phillip Mata, son Lawrence Mata (wife Lea), daughter Veronica Alexander (husband David)

Brother to Richard Mata, sister Maria Valenzuela, brother Danny Mata.
Grandfather to Olivia (Nene) Chavira, Alyssa Chavira, Lauren Chavira, Jonathan Mata, Jenessa Benitez, Benjamin Mata, Joshua Alexander, Kyle Alexander, Dylanray Alexander, Hannah P. Alexander, Lily Mata, Maylee Mata, Rylan Mata and Ely Mata.
Great Grandfather to Damien and Jaden.
Visitation for Mr. Mata will be from 6pm-8pm Wednesday June 28 at The Highlands Funeral Home 505 E. Williams St. Funeral Service will be at 10am.Thursday June 29, at the High Desert Word Center, with the Pastor David Samples Officiating 30918 Soapmine Rd. Barstow. Interment at Mountain View Memorial Park 37067 Irwin Rd Barstow, with a United States Army detail to conduct Military Honors
